General Manager Works Programme

WEL Networks owns and manages the electrical lines network in Hamilton and the greater Waikato area. We are proud to provide a highly reliable electricity supply to over 90,000 homes and businesses. With a staff of 250, working out of our modern, purpose built complex in Te Rapa we provide a fully integrated electricity network management service which includes planning, design, delivery and operation.
We are looking for a General Manager to join the WEL executive team and head up our newly formed Works Programme group.
This role will lead the group that delivers the design, project management, and scheduling stages of the Asset Management life cycle at WEL.
What will the role involve?
You will be providing leadership to a group of 40+ skilled employees across multi-disciplinary teams. You will lead the group to design, project manage and schedule an annual plan of work to hand over to our partners (both internal and external) for delivery on our network.
As a member of our Executive team you will contribute to WEL’s overall business strategy, and share responsibility for management of the whole business. You will be joining our organisation at a time of change in the industry and be part of developing and implementing WEL’s vision of ‘Creating an innovative energy future’.
What will you need to bring with you?
This is a senior role in our organisation and we will need you to be suitably qualified and experienced. You will have significant senior management experience in our industry, leading and developing staff, negotiating contracts, managing commercial risks and developing strategies and policies. You will already be a safety leader and understand what it takes to create and maintain a high value safety culture in a high risk industry.
Your personal integrity and credibility will be very important to you and you will have the ability to work with other leaders to achieve win-win results, driving behaviour to optimise not only department outcomes, but also business outcomes.
